Merson's predictions: Will Arsene Wenger taste defeat on last trip to Old Trafford as Arsenal boss?

Merson's Predictions

Paul Merson returns with his predictions for this weekend's Premier League fixtures as the season enters the home straight.

After a week of semi-finals in the FA Cup and Champions League, there's a full Premier League card, which gets underway at Anfield as Liverpool host Stoke, live on Sky Sports Premier League.

West Ham host champions Manchester City in part one of Nissan Super Sunday before Arsene Wenger takes Arsenal to Manchester United for the final time as manager.

The Premier League weekend concludes with Tottenham and Watford's clash at Wembley on Monday Night Football.

But who is the Magic Man backing? Let's take a look...

Premier League fixtures (Round 36)

  • Liverpool v Stoke
  • Burnley v Brighton
  • Crystal Palace v Leicester
  • Huddersfield v Everton
  • Newcastle v West Brom
  • Southampton v Bournemouth
  • Swansea v Chelsea
  • West Ham v Man City
  • Man Utd v Arsenal
  • Tottenham v Watford

Liverpool v Stoke (Saturday from 11.30am, live on Sky Sports Premier League)

This is a great time for Stoke. They've been a bit unlucky if I'm being honest, they just haven't been able to get over the line.

Live Premier League

This is a hard one because Liverpool are usually a banker but they are going to rest everybody ahead of their Champions League semi-final second leg with Roma. I'm going to go with Liverpool but I don't know why!

PAUL PREDICTS: 2-1 (15/2 with Sky Bet)

West Ham v Man City (Nissan Super Sunday from 1.30pm, Sky Sports Premier League)

Manchester City will go to town at the London Stadium. Arsenal put four past West Ham last week so City will continue to finish their season on high.

Live Nissan Super Sunday

West Ham are as good as safe now, so they will be OK no matter how many goals they concede to City.

PAUL PREDICTS: 0-4 (12/1 with Sky Bet)

West Ham host Man City and Arsenal travel to Old Trafford to face Manchester United. Here are some of the stats focusing on the two fixtures

Man Utd v Arsenal (Nissan Super Sunday from 4.15pm, Sky Sports Premier League)

Arsenal have got no choice but to rest players at Old Trafford. They can't get in the top four so the Europa League is the priority and their only route into the Champions League next season. I cannot begin to think who will start against United because they have to rest, so it's a good time to play Arsenal.

Live Nissan Super Sunday

It's a shame for Arsene Wenger that this game comes in between the Atletico Madrid games, but winning the Europa League would make up for defeat on his last trip to Old Trafford.

PAUL PREDICTS: 3-0 (10/1 with Sky Bet)

Tottenham v Watford (Monday Night Football from 7pm, Sky Sports Premier League)

Watford look as though they are on the beach. Harry Kane will see this a good opportunity to strengthen his bid for the Golden Boot in a comprehensive Spurs victory.

Live MNF

You only have to look back at recent seasons to see that Tottenham finish the season strong.

PAUL PREDICTS: 4-0 (15/2 with Sky Bet)

Burnley v Brighton (Saturday, 3pm)

Burnley got a good result at Stoke. They were second best against Chelsea before that but they didn't get blown away, it was still a tight game. They will have just too much for Brighton and move ever closer to securing European football which will be a phenomenal achievement. They have won their league behind the top six, they should get a medal.

PAUL PREDICTS: 2-1 (17/2 with Sky Bet)

Crystal Palace v Leicester (Saturday, 3pm)

I've been surprised by Leicester, they've been disappointing. With the World Cup on the horizon, some of their players have just gone off the boil. Palace always seem to concede and they have made things harder for themselves this season, but they have done great to get out of trouble and I fancy them to secure their top-flight status against the Foxes.

PAUL PREDICTS: 2-1 (15/2 with Sky Bet)

Watford 0-0 Crystal Palace

Huddersfield v Everton (Saturday, 3pm)

This is it, it's crunch time! Huddersfield can pull clear from danger with a positive result but I think the wait will go on. The Terriers don't handle pressure well. Yes, they got a massive result against Watford with the last kick of the game, but they are not a free-flowing side. Everton are going to make things hard for them, they have got a bit more guile about them and I see them nicking it.

PAUL PREDICTS: 0-1 (11/2 with Sky Bet)

Newcastle v West Brom (Saturday, 3pm)

Newcastle will want to finish the season well for season ticket renewals. Rafa Benitez's squad have done well staying up. I know the shackles are off West Brom, and they won at Old Trafford, but this will be a tough assignment.

PAUL PREDICTS: 2-0 (13/2 with Sky Bet)

Everton 1-0 Newcastle

Southampton v Bournemouth (Saturday, 3pm)

Southampton played last week at Leicester on the strength that they had to beat Bournemouth. They played for a draw at the King Power knowing they would definitely beat Bournemouth to set up a cup final against Swansea. This is the be all and end all for Southampton. I'm backing them to win a must-win game, they will have more intensity than Bournemouth given what's at stake. If they lose they are relegated.

PAUL PREDICTS: 2-1 (7/1 with Sky Bet)

Swansea v Chelsea (Saturday, 5.30pm)

The Premier League survival battle could all be over at the end of the weekend. If Swansea beat Chelsea and Stoke and Southampton lose, that's it. This is a tough game for Chelsea, Swansea are decent at home. How Chelsea approach this game depends on Liverpool's result against Stoke, if they drop points they could be right back in the race for the top four with a win. I'm going to go for a draw but if Liverpool and Stoke draw, it has to be Chelsea.

PAUL PREDICTS: 1-1 (6/1 with Sky Bet)
