Romelu Lukaku rescued a point for Belgium with a smart goal against Greece in the dying minutes in their World Cup Qualifier

Romelu Lukaku produced a superb piece of centre-forward play to score an 89th minute equaliser in Belgium's 1-1 World Cup Qualifying draw with Greece.

It was proving to be a frustrating night for both Belgium and Lukaku with Greece resolutely holding onto the one-goal lead Konstantinos Mitroglou gave them early in the second-half.

But the Everton striker, who was a peripheral figure for much of the game, produced a moment of magic with his back to goal, bringing Dries Mertens' cross down on his chest before, all in one motion, turning and firing a powerful shot past Stefanos Kapino at his near post.

It was Lukaku's 28th goal for club and country this season as Belgium extend their unbeaten run in home qualifiers to 17 games and he almost won it minutes later, but this time Kapino produced a brilliant save to deny the 23-year-old.

Greece, who were reduced to 10 men when Panagiotis Tachtsidis received a second yellow card, finished the game with nine men with Georgios Tzavellas also receiving his marching orders for a second bookable offence but they held on for a valuable point in the race for qualification from Group H.
