Football, a growing culture

                                           (American Soccer)

Football, more commonly known as soccer in the United States is the most popular sport in the world. The sport has an interesting history which dates back centuries ago. Early evidence of soccer being played dates back to China during the 2nd and 3rd centuries. It was during the Han dynasty in China that leather balls were first dribbled and kicked into a small net. Other facts show that Greeks and Romans also used to play for fun.
The growth of modern soccer has been said to have emerged in England. The game incorporated rugby rules within it. The history of modern-day soccer dates back to 1863. In October of 1863, eleven representatives from London clubs and schools met in order to establish a common set of rules to control matches amongst themselves. From this meeting, the Football Association was formed. All rules relating to rugby were formally banned from the game in 1869. It was during this time that soccer was becoming it own sport. The popularity of the game started to spread during the 1800’s. In 1904, FIFA was established. FIFA is credited for organizing the first world cup which took place in Uruguay. The rich history and culture of the game continues to grow.
In the United States, the popularity of the game is slowly starting to grow. Growing up with a father who played college soccer I was brought into the game from birth. I started playing as early as I could remember walking. I enjoying the feeling that playing soccer gives me. As an attacking player, dribbling by someone gives me a feeling of accomplishment. When you get the ball and began to run by players as if there not even there, you feel as if no one can stop you. It feels as if the ball is glued to your feet, like you are one with the ball. The feeling of scoring a goal is the greatest satisfaction. Seeing the ball go through the net then celebrating the goal you just scored with your teammates is a feeling that can’t be beaten.
American soccer is growing due to the boom of the MLS. The MLS, stands for Major League Soccer. This is the professional league here in America. Although the standard of play is not as good as other leagues such as the EPL where the best players in the world play, it is getting better with time. Better players are slowly starting to enter the league. As the level of college soccer is growing, better caliber players are beginning to be drafted into the league. With the growing success of the MLS, youth soccer is also beginning to flourish. Players are starting to play at a younger age, giving them more years of experience. In America, college soccer players are student athletes. In many other foreign countries, kids either go to school or play soccer. Participating in both is generally not an option. Soccer is a lifestyle in many other countries as kids live and breathe the game. With time, the standard of American soccer will someday be among the best in the world.

Determined to make it, this is me

Born and raised in Sacramento, California, my name is Adedoja Akinsanya. I was brought into this word on April 25, 1991 by my dad Ade and my mother Christiana. I am a first generation child, with two parents who were both born in Nigeria. For short, I go by Ade. This saves me the hassle of listening to others trying to correctly pronounce my full name. Being a first generation child, I was raised differently than your average American kid. My parents always preached about the importance of school and hard work. The lifestyle and conditions they were raised in taught them to be disciplined and determined. There teachings have help me become who I have today throughout my 20 years of living. I have two siblings, an older brother Temi and an older sister Ruby. Yes, this makes the baby and the favorite child. Family has always been the most important thing in my life. My siblings have grown to be my best friends, and my parents are my guardians. I enjoy traveling and learning about new things because I believe every culture can teach you something new about life.
Soccer is my passion in life. Being raised into a family in which almost every member has played soccer at one point in their life has influenced me in striving to play professionally. I attended Boston University on an athletic soccer scholarship where I played for 2 years alongside my older brother. In my third season, I realized that Boston University was not the right place for me. If I wanted to chase my dreams and play professional soccer, I knew I could no longer stay in Boston. I sought out to find a place that would provide me the best opportunity to achieve my goals. After ruling out many schools, I decided that Louisville was the right fit for me. In the spring of 2012, I transferred to Louisville. I am a Communications major in the school of arts and sciences. After graduating from U of L, I hope to be a top 15 round draft pick in the Major League Soccer (MLS) Super Draft. I plan on playing the MLS for a few years before perusing to move on to play professional soccer in Europe.
When my playing days are done due to age, I plan on finding a job that still keeps me active with sports. I would like to work in the public relations field dealing with either soccer or basketball. Since I was little I have dreamed of being a soccer agent, bringing kids over from less fortunate countries and helping them achieve their soccer goals. There are unseen talented kids all over the world who never get the chance to play in college or make it professionally because of their living environment. I want to one day help these kids find their way by working to get their name out to the public.
The rest of my blog will focus on sport culture. I like keep up to date with scores, sports events and the  social life of professional athletes.

NFL changes for the better

(Nike College Football Image)

Super Bowl XLVI was the most-watched television event in American history. Every year this is no surprise. A recorded 111.3 million people tuned in to watch the Giants defeat the Patriots. People all over the world watch the game for many different reasons. There are always the die-hard football fans who watch in honor of supporting their teams, while there are also the people who know nothing about football but watch just because it is a social event and another reason for them to stuff their faces and get drunk.  At the same time, there are the people who enjoy watching the commercials which companies pay a large sum of money for in order to gain their thirty seconds of fame. Lastly, there are the people who enjoy the half time show which never fails to be less than spectacular. With the 2012 NFL season at closure, talk about next year’s season excites fans all over the world.
The NFL has signed a new contract with Nike Pro Combat in 2010 that will now come into action as of 2012. Nike will be the new uniform provider for the NFL. Reebok has been the official sponsor of the NFL for the last 11 years, signing a $250 million deal back in 2000. Many people have become accustomed to the classic look Reebok has provided the NFL and are scared of change. Football fans fear any changes made to their traditional American sport. The logos and uniform colors are controlled by the teams. No new changes will be made to logos and uniform colors unless the team applies for it. Changes in new designs and material will be seen. Nike promotes uniform technology that is performance driven such as lighter materials. Such changes will take action. Although sketches of the new apparel have been leaked, nothing has been set as permanent. Nike has previewed some advertisements in order to ease tension amongst angry fans. Nike has made promises to transform the classic look of the NFL. Joined by Nike, New Era and 47 Brand will handle on-field headwear. Under Armor will remain the sponsor of the NFL Scouting Combine in Indianapolis.
As of now, the only team that is acting on the new uniform enhancements is the Seattle Seahawks. The Seahawks have met with Nike representatives in order to discuss new uniform possibilities for 2012. The new uniform change will help players who want to change their number. In the past, players who wished to change their numbers would have to go through an approval process with the team and the league. From this, they would have to buy back all unsold jerseys with their numbers on it from stores. The new Nike deal will eliminate the final step of purchasing back every unsold jersey.
Nike is currently the sponsor of Oregon Ducks football. Oregon has debuted many new Nike uniforms on many different big games. The Ducks have over one hundred different uniform combinations that have created a buzz amongst its fans. These Nike designed uniforms have been a big success and are continuing to grow. Perhaps these uniforms are a prelude of what Nike has to offer the NFL.
